'TERMS OF DIVORCE' SET TO ROLL ON SAT AND SUN

ebo whyte frame“When Roverman Productions promise, they deliver”. That should be the words on the lips of theatre enthusiasts and observers of the Ghana theatre scene as the Roverman folks prepare to put up their third quarter play, Terms of Divorce on September 4 and 5, 2010 at the National theatre in Ghana’s capital, Accra.

Having successfully performed two plays this year to meet their one-play-every-quarter promise, Ebo Whyte and his Roverman Productions appear poised to deliver yet another entertaining and thought-provoking play titled ‘Terms of Divorce’

The chief playwright told Yaw Sakyi on the Rundown the new play will meet the expectations of enthusiast who will throng the venue.

‘The terms of divorce is one of my challenging script but having gone through the rehearsals even the actors have more than appreciated it and so it tells you how much the viewing public will take it’. Whyte said.

In Ghana there are no shortages of performers, Ghanaians are artiste, there is always drama inside them and it’s even evident when you two people chat on the street. We don’t have any challenge with our talents. The challenge is our ability to write good script. We’re good performers, good actors but not good at writing script.

He added: But that is my advantage because I write and that is the results of what you see in our productions. The issues in terms of divorce are quite diverse and deep. How to address serious issues without been boring and happy to see that we run through the play last night and even the group members were thrilled’, he concluded.

In Terms of Divorce, Ethel, a bitter and unhappy woman, wants divorce from her husband of 20 years.

She engages Michael Ababio as her lawyer. Her outraged husband, Ralph Arthur, on the other hand, picks Baaba, the ex-wife of Michael to represent him.

This sets the stage for fireworks in and out of court between the two lawyers and their clients.

Things come to a head when Ethel and her lawyer present their terms of divorce and Ralph and his lawyer make their counter offer which falls far short of what Ethel is demanding. Meanwhile the court orders the couple to see a marriage counselor before the divorce is granted.

Ethel and Ralph reluctantly comply with the court’s order with only one thing in mind – to convince the counsellor that their marriage is beyond salvation.

At the marriage counselor’s place, the couple and their lawyers discover to their shock that the counselor’s wife of 30 years is mad and that is when things get completely and hopelessly out of hand.

Terms of Divorce has been described as an unforgettable journey of emotions, excitement, wit and humour.ebo whyte frame
